Negotiation is such an important skill to master. Whether it’s your job salary, a business deal you’re working on or just trying to get an extra 10% off your next shoe purchase, everything in life is a negotiation. There’s likely nobody that knows more about negotiation than Chris Voss. Prior to 2008, Chris was the lead international kidnapping negotiator for the FBI. He dealt with over 150 kidnappings in his 24-year FBI career. In other words: when a bad guy captured an American, Chris was the first person called to safely handle the situation. He is also a recipient of the Attorney General’s Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement and the FBI Agents Association Award for Distinguished and Exemplary Service. Now, Chris runs the Black Swan Consulting Group and teaches negotiation at USC & Georgetown University. Chris wrote the bestselling book: “Never Split The Difference: Negotiating As If Your Life Depended On It”. This was recommended to me by a ton of people and is a must-read for anyone looking to master their negotiation skills. In this episode, we talk about his negotiation process with terrorists, how a business or salesperson can use these tactics and tips for your next salary negotiation.“The most dangerous negotiation is the one you don’t know you’re in.”
