This Week

I’ve got an article dropping tomorrow on the concept of “garbage in, garbage out” and how certain email newsletters have helped me to grow and see the world in a new way.

This may be the most important time in all of history to evaluate ourselves on a “garbage in, garbage out” model as it relates to what we consume.

There have never been as many news outlets, messages and notifications hitting us between the eyes.  Most of it, in the grand scheme of things, is garbage. Or should I say bullshit?

Who cares about the pool party that Gronk is throwing in Vegas or that the girl you haven’t talked to since 6th grade got engaged at the Eiffel Tower last weekend.  It does you no good.

We need more content that empowers us.  Content that inspires us – whether it’s to finally start that business that’s been in the back of your mind for 5 years or just to get out of bed with a smile on your face.

Which leads me to the announcement I referenced in the subject line.

I’m launching a new newsletter: Daily Momentum.  It’s a short (~250-word), daily email set to inspire you with a small passage, quote or idea.  This will start on Monday 12/2 and run 5 days a week.

The world needs more positivity and I’d like to add to that, one piece at a time.

I’ll keep doing this weekly newsletter and the weekly blog post.  This will be a separate message going out to people who opt-in for it.  I think it’ll be fun. I’d love to help kick your day off on the right foot.  If you’d like to sign up, you can click here – and I’d be honored if you joined me in the mission.

Much love. Eat some turkey for me on Thursday.  I’m thankful for each and every one of you that reads this.

Let’s make it a great week!  Sign up for Daily Momentum here.

Weekly Six-Pack
Here are the 6 things to check out this week:

  1. In 1910, Teddy Roosevelt dropped one of the best speeches of all time, talking about the “Man in the Arena.”  I wrote about it this week.  If you are doing any work that requires you to take chances, be bold and make uncomfortable decisions, you need to read this.
  2. My good friend Ryan Warner dropped a podcast documentary (part 1) on Dan Gable, the winningest coach in wrestling history.  Listen, I’ve never wrestled a day in my life – but this documentary is dope, entertaining and I learned some leadership lessons.  Check it out.
  3. Elsewhere in the podcast world, Jocko took over Tim Ferriss’ podcast for an episode.  It’s legit.  Check it here
  4. Steven Pressfield is a great teacher on being a pro vs. an amateur.  Part of being a pro means planning ahead and making a career
  5. I decided to re-read “Born Standing Up” by Steve Martin.  The first time, I rushed through this book and wasn’t super impressed.  On the re-read, my entire perspective changed.  I think it’s one of the best biographies I’ve ever read, especially from someone telling their come-up story in an artistic endeavor.
  6. Love this nugget from James Clear: we’re richer than 93% of people (not in the way you may think…)

Quote of the Week

“Associate with the people who are likely to improve you.  Welcome those who you are capable of improving.  The process is a mutual one: men and women learn as they teach.”
